Nearly two dozen faculty were honored for their excellence in teaching, mentoring, research, and service to Dartmouth.

The Melvin G. Marcus Distinguished Career Award honors the geography professor's outstanding research and dedication to mentorship.

Winter, an associate professor of geography, and geography professor Frank Magilligan are featured in a story about increased flooding in Vermont. "The dominant effect of climate change on precipitation we've found is simply that warmer air holds more water," Winter says.

"One of the main [arguments], especially for New England, is an incredible attachment to place. And so the dams are evocative of history, our colonial history. And you know, you can't ignore that," said Magilligan.

"You hope that every event like this keeps people alert, and thinking of the future. It's not going to be a one-off, and you can't put your head in the sand," the professor of geography says in a New York Times story about Vermont's flood protection efforts.
