Congrats to Michelle Irengbam for her lead authored piece that just came out in the prestigious journal Political Geography!

The former PhD student and current Postdoctoral Scholar at Stanford University was recognized by Dartmouth for his "personal qualities of intellectual curiosity, dedication, and commitment to the pursuit of new knowledge and to teaching, as well as a sense of social responsibility to the community of scholars".

The Geography and Linguistics major will be teaching English to middle and high school students in Slavičín, Czech Republic.

"Because it's been getting warmer on average, droughts tend to be hotter on average," the postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Geography says about how one weather extreme can make the next even more dangerous.

Geography alumni Jimena Perez '23 and Lizet Garcia '23 credit the Mellon Mays Fellowship with helping them network with graduate programs to pursue a PhD and further their research.

Garcia wrote that it was important to "do the work to denaturalize these structures but at the same time work towards a better future," they said. Garcia intends to focus on ideas that "center care and love and center youth voices."
