Postdoctoral Fellowships

The department offers a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship for outstanding recently graduated PhDs in Geography. For these positions we seek exceptional scholars who will both complement and augment existing departmental strengths in research and teaching.

About the Fellowship

Our postdoctoral fellow contributes to the intellectual life of department and college through their research, writing, and participation in department seminars and other events. Fellows also teach two courses per year.  While at Dartmouth they enjoy full use of the library, computing facilities, the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning, and other college resources. Fellows receive an annual stipend of $52,500, plus a $1000 research allowance.

The positions are staggered such that one fellow is hired every year, with appointments starting in September. Generally, each position is advertised in late fall, with applications due mid-winter. Candidate interviews are typically conducted at the annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers.

The Department of Geography also hosts scholars appointed through a variety of Dartmouth College dissertation fellowship and postdoctoral fellowship programs.
