Alumni Story: Joseph S. Leeper '68 Inspires Scholarship at Humboldt State University

Received MA and PhD from Univ. of Oregon.  Taught Geography at Humboldt State University for 38 years.  Offered 13 different syllabi specializing in Urban/Economic, Human/Cultural, Latin America, Field Methods and Geography Education.  Served as chair for 26 years over different periods.
Active in grassroots geography with state geographical society, local county office of education and State History and Social Science Project.  Served California Geographic Society as executive board member, vice president and president. Received various awards including Outstanding Educator from both California Geographical Society and National Council of Geographic Education, two time recipient of  Friend of Education Award from Humboldt State and Outstanding Service Award from California Geographic Society.  Most proud of fact that after my retirement, several students donated money and stocks to Humboldt State foundation to start and now Joseph S. Leeper scholarship that has now been awarded to 13 different Humboldt State Geography majors.
