Thirty-eight faculty members across Dartmouth have been honored recently for their exceptional accomplishments as teachers, scholars, and mentors.

“Great universities are built by great faculty. The scholars we recognize today are builders of knowledge, mentors of future leaders, and stewards of truth,” says Provost Santiago Schnell. “Their example calls us to aim higher, think deeper, and serve with purpose.”

This year’s awardees are:

Arts and Sciences

Dean of Faculty Award for Exceptional Service

Honors exceptional service that is distinguished by achievements of unique significance to Dartmouth by an Arts and Sciences faculty member.

Dean of Faculty Award for Outstanding Mentoring and Advising

Awarded to a faculty member in recognition of outstanding contributions to Dartmouth and career distinction.

  • Andrew Campbell, Albert Bradley 1915 Third Century Professor of Computer Science

Dean of Faculty Teaching Award

Awarded to nontenure-line faculty in recognition of outstanding contributions to Dartmouth and career distinction.

Elizabeth Howland Hand-Otis Norton Pierce Award

Awarded to a member of the faculty who, in the opinion of the trustees, is an outstanding teacher of undergraduates.

Frank J. Guarini Award for Extraordinary Contribution to Off-Campus Programs

Awarded to a faculty member who has made significant efforts to advance the mission of Dartmouth’s international and domestic off-campus study programs for undergraduates.

Jerome Goldstein Award for Distinguished Teaching

Awarded to a faculty member for outstanding teaching.

John M. Manley Huntington Award for Newly Promoted Faculty

Awarded to a faculty member recently promoted to full professor who has outstanding teaching and research records.

John M. Manley Huntington Award for Newly Tenured Faculty

Awarded to a recently tenured faculty member who has an outstanding record of teaching and research.

Karen E. Wetterhahn Memorial Award for Distinguished Creative or Scholarly Achievement

Awarded to a newly tenured faculty member with outstanding scholarship.

Robert A. Fish 1918 Memorial Prize

Awarded to a newly retired faculty member to commemorate a career of contributions to undergraduate teaching at Dartmouth.

 

Geisel School of Medicine

Ann J. Davis Faculty Award

Given by the graduating class to a member of the Geisel faculty who truly champions the student voice.

Basic Science Teaching Award

Selected by graduating students, this honors a basic science faculty member distinguished for excellence in teaching medical students.

Clinical Science Teaching Award

Selected by graduating students, this honors a clinical science faculty member distinguished for excellence in teaching medical students.

Dartmouth-Mosenthal Surgical Society Fellow

Given to faculty exemplifying William T. Mosenthal’s responsibility for the welfare of patients, scientific curiosity, passion for teaching, commitment to lifelong learning, and devotion to Dartmouth.

Departmental Clerkship Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Geisel Student Learning

These awards are given annually to the faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and outstanding commitment to medical student learning in the Year 3 and 4 clerkships.

Everett Koop Courage Award, Faculty Recipient

Honoring a faculty member whose courage in serving the public good continues the spirit of C. Everett Koop ’37, the former surgeon general.

Faculty Excellence in Career Advising and Professional Development Award

Recognizing a faculty specialty adviser for outstanding work in advising students during the residency application process, and in facilitating student professional development throughout their time at Geisel.

Joseph F. O’Donnell Faculty Award

Given to a member of the Geisel faculty who prioritizes a culture of respect and care, advancing the mission of the school through their work with students.

Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, Faculty Recipient, presented by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation

Given to a faculty member in recognition of their compassion, empathy, respect, and cultural sensitivity in the delivery of care to patients and their families while exhibiting the attributes of a scientifically excellent physician.

Master of Public Health Teaching Excellence Awards

Each graduating class selects faculty members to honor for inclusive, transformative teaching.

  • William Nelson, professor of The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice
  • Robin Larson, assistant professor of medicine and assistant professor of The Dartmouth Institute

Thomas P. Almy Housestaff Teaching Award

Honoring the member of the house staff selected by students to be most distinguished for maintaining a commitment to medical student education and serving as an intellectual and ethical role model.

 

Thayer School of Engineering

Community Impact Award 

Recognizes outstanding leadership with a deep commitment to and determined efforts in building community, reducing barriers, and expanding access to Thayer in support of its educational mission.

Distinguished Research Award for Faculty

Honors scholarly achievements, particularly over the past year, that demonstrate notable discoveries or research accomplishments through publication, citation, or issued patents.

  • Hui Fang, associate professor of engineering

Outstanding Award for Faculty

Honors service and dedication that has enhanced the quality of education, research, and community.

Woodhouse Excellence in Teaching Award

Honors the best teacher-scholar among engineering faculty.

 

Tuck School of Business

Teaching Excellence Awards

Honoring the Tuck faculty who, in the eyes of their students, have made an outstanding contribution to the quality of the educational experience.
