Aletha Spang

GIS Specialist

Aletha (they/them) is the GIS Specialist for the Geography Department. They are the lab instructor and/or teaching assistant for the department's GIS courses, manage the Rahr Lab for GIS and Cartography, assist with research, and consult on faculty and student projects. Aletha has experience with many spatial analysis and visualization technologies, including Esri's ArcGIS suite, QGIS, R, Python, HTML/Javascript, Adobe suite, etc. Aletha has a BS in Biology and Masters of Landscape Architecture from Roger Williams University and the University of Colorado Denver, and is especially interested in participatory GIS, countermapping, and alternative, creative cartographies. In their free time, Aletha likes to create art, play music, and frolic in the outdoors.
