Jiaxin Feng

Guarini Postdoctoral Fellow

Jiaxin is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the field of Geospatial Information Science. Her research is grounded in the intersection of GIScience, human geography, affective neuroscience, human-computer interaction, and environmental psychology. Her doctoral research centered on enhancing the understanding of dynamic human emotions toward geographic environments by integrating neural techniques - EEG - into GIS studies. She developed methods to infer human emotions from brainwaves and examined how individuals respond to geographic environments physiologically, mentally, socially, and spatially with mixed methods. She also explored the extent to which perceived geographic environments can explain people's psychophysiological responses using geospatial artificial intelligence.    Moving forward, she investigates the healthy qualities of urban environments including the effects of various landscapes and environments on human emotions and mental health, and unravels the human interactions with geographic environments represented by virtual, augmented, and mixed realities.
