Mariya Galochkina
Appointments
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Biography
Mariya is a postdoctoral research scholar working with Dr. Arianna Varuolo-Clarke. She is broadly interested in the predictability and interannual variability of hydroclimate and temperature extremes across the Americas, and in bridging climate model simulations with observations to better understand processes such as the North American Monsoon. She completed her Ph.D. in Climate Science from the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography in 2026, where her dissertation examined how large-scale climate variability drives marine heatwaves in the Caribbean and how this information can be leveraged to predict coral bleaching events further in advance.
