Mariya Galochkina

Appointments

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Biography

Mariya is an incoming postdoctoral research associate working with Dr. Arianna Varuolo-Clarke at Dartmouth College. She is broadly interested in the predictability and interannual variability in hydroclimate and temperature extremes across the Western Hemisphere, and in bridging climate model simulations with proxy observations to better understand these processes. She is about to finish her Ph.D. in Oceanography from the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography in 2026, where her dissertation focuses on understanding how large-scale climate variability drives marine heatwaves in the Caribbean and how this information can be leveraged to predict coral bleaching events further in advance.

Education

Ph.D., 2026, MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography and Applied Ocean Science
